2018 OHM Electric Bike Updates at Interbike (City Step-Thru, Urban, Sport, Mountain)

For 2018, OHM is continuing their refinement of the Urban, Sport, and Mountain models and introducing a new one called the City, which is a step-through. OHM has adopted the BionX D-Series D500 motor for all of their current year electric bike products because of the power, regeneration, and throttle features it offers, in addition to torque sensing pedal assist. And most of these qualities are retained with the new 350 watt option for the City, it just delivers less power. All models are using the 48 volt 11.6 amp hour mid-frame battery pack. One of the OHM employees from their Vancouver BC Canada headquarters, Liam, walked me through the latest updates at Interbike and we talked about 2018 and beyond.

The OHM City Step-Thru is going to be available in four different frame sizes, including a smaller 15” whereas the others start at 16.5”. It uses the same battery and display system as the others but can be outfitted with either the D-Series 500 watt motor or a less expensive less-powerful 350 watt gearless hub motor. The 350 watt City model will be priced at $2,999 making it their most affordable bike. If you opt for the more powerful 500 watt D-Series motor, the price raises to $3,599. It appears that this model will come with a suspension fork in addition to wider tires (offering stability and comfort). OHM has chosen one color for each model and this continues with the City, which comes in a soft blue. The upper portion of the downtube is extra thick and has two portions of tubing which Liam told me was chosen to keep the frame stiff and reduce flex (which many step-thru models suffer from).

OHM offers some great upgrades for their bikes including the BodyFloat seat post suspension. I saw it on their Urban model, which is grey, at the show. Other updates include a narrow-wide chainring (where the teeth alternate from narrow to wide to hold the chain better, reducing drops and slipping).
