What do you think this 2018 Elby Electric Bike Updates from Interbike (S1, C1, Carrier Rack, BionX Motor) video?
For 2018, Elby is adding a second electric bike model! I met with the director of global sales and marketing, Scott Macwilliam, and talked about their first bike, the S1 (which sort of stands for Sport model) and then the C1 (which stands for Cruiser). Elby has been updating their branding a bit, with some light blue and purple colors. They still offer many color choices for their bikes. They have a new tagline “Feel Electric” which is a reference to feeling the power of electric assist and throttle but also the good feeling their bicycles give you when riding. I asked what Elby stands for and Scott explained that it was an abbreviation for “electric bicycle”.
The new C1 was launched at Eurobike and offers more of a traditional look with a high-step frame vs. the deep wave frame of the S1. For me, the names seem a bit reversed because cruisers are more relaxed and that fits the S1 whereas the C1 looks a little sporty and active… but whatever 🙂
Elby seems to be connected with Magna International, an automotive company from Canada. They are borrowing some of the quality and design focus from autos and integrating it into their electric bicycles. This is their vision, they want it to be beautiful, and capable, but also safe and integrated. I noticed the high-quality lights, alloy fenders, chain guide, powerful hydraulic disc brakes, and removable color display. In terms of price, the S1 is priced at $3,500 and the C1 is priced at $2,999 which is amazing to me considering how they both have so many premium accessories. One of the newest accessories is a carrier rack adapter for adding a basket or drape-over pannier. We got to see both of these items in use at the show. The bikes also come in two sizes so you can improve fit and comfort. As we finished our talk, I made the request that they add bottle cage bosses.
