Quick Chat with Tern about the Vektron, eLink D7i, and Company History - E-Bike Open House

On August 26th, 2017 I visited the Electric Bicycle Center in Fullerton, California to attend the Ebike Extravaganza event that Sam Townsend puts on (this was the 5th Annual event). We went around talking with each of the different vendors and I spoke with Steve from Tern. They sell a range of folding electric bikes and have been expanding to use Bosch as well as Bafang mid-drive systems.

We looked at the Tern Vektron and eLink D7i models which use Bosch and Bafang systems respectively. The D7i is priced at $2k so it’s a lot more affordable than the Vektron at $3,400 which I have reviewed here: electricbikereview.com/tern/vektron/ both models use the andros system. They consider themselves an “urban transportation company” even though most of their products right now are folding. Steve is a founding member of Tern and spoke about the documentary 180 degrees South where some surfers take an epic journey and how they used a comment from that movie to name the company.
