What do you think this Specialized Turbo Vado Deep Dive with Dominik Geyer (Head of Brand-Turbo) video?
Recently I was invited to Palo Alto, California to meetup with the team behind the new Specialized Vado electric bicycle including Dominik Geyer, Head of Brand-Turbo, from Switzerland! He and I sat down to discuss the bike and review the official powerpoint presentation. I was able to ask the really detailed deep questions and he provided a bit of history for the Specialized Turbo brand. The Turbo Vado will begin hitting stores in June 2017 and will come in four skews including a 2.0 and 3.0 with 20 mph top speed and a 5.0 and 6.0 with 28 mph top speed for commuters. For the full review on their 6.0 model, you can visit the site at:electricbikereview.com/specialized/turbo-vado-6-0/
The Specialized Turbo team includes 20 people around the world, it’s a multi-national team that’s focused on purpose-built bikes that look and feel natural. Their motto is “it’s you only faster”. The first ebike, the Turbo S, was launched in 2012 and their first electric mountain bike was introduced in 2015. The Vado is being introduced in 2017 and the name is Latin meaning “to go or push, speed it up”. I asked Dominik what Levo meant and he said it meant “to lift” which is also from Latin and fits perfectly for mountain biking vs. urban with the Vado. This is the first specialized electric bike model that comes in a Female specific step-thru frame. This allows for an easier entrance (mounting and standing over the frame). The grips and saddle are also gender specific for better support. Their new Turbo Vado tagline is “busy lives call for faster bikes”.
